World Clubfoot Day Is On the Way!

by | May 25, 2017

World clubfoot day with miraclefeet!World Clubfoot Day is coming up in early June, and the Southern California Foot & Ankle Specialists team is gearing up for another round of family fun and activity to increase awareness, raise money, and bring people together! On the official World Clubfoot Day, June 3, our doctors will be out in Iowa where a street is being named after Dr. Ignacio Ponsetti. Although born in Spain, Dr. Ponsetti moved to Iowa in the late 1930s during the Spanish Civil War, and in the 1950s developed the Ponsetti method for correcting clubfoot—techniques we still use today to bring hope and restoration to children around the world! The next weekend, June 10, we’ll be back home in Ladera Ranch, CA to celebrate with our patients and their families and friends! The festivities start at 11 a.m. at Florence Joyner Olympiad Park. Parents and kids who have been affected by clubfoot will have to chance to meet, get to know one another, play games, and learn a little bit more about this common birth defect, which occurs in about one out of every 1,000 live births. You’ll also have an opportunity to support and donate to MiracleFeet, a global organization that provides clubfoot treatment to children in developing countries around the world. Here in Southern California (and more broadly, the United States), we’re lucky to have lots of access to great doctors and facilities where conditions like clubfoot can be resolved successfully. Not everyone is so fortunate, and MiracleFeet helps provide treatment that’s desperately needed in countries and regions with much less access to quality health care. Once we get closer to the date, we’ll have more to share about specific speakers and activities. We hope you’ll bring your family and join us! As you know, clubfoot is something that is very close to our hearts at Southern California Foot & Ankle Specialists, and our goal is to help as many children as possible—not only with the treatment we provide here in Ladera Ranch, but by supporting the global effort to correct clubfoot worldwide.
